Linda Rosch

Background: I am both a musician and a visual artist. I was a young person, in my late teens and early 20's, during the Viet Nam War. Thus, I was introduced to "the real world" -- and began to educate myself. I became further educated when when we (the U.S.) so kindly intervened in the free election process in Chile. I was acquainted with Ronni Karpen Moffett, Orlando Letelier's aid, because she was a musician. She died in a car-bomb explosion in the District of Columbia, alongside Orlando Letelier of the Institute for Policy Studies, our local "chapter" of the coup in Chile.  I wept, and wrote a song dedicated to her and to Orlando Letelier. I continue to educate myself on a daily basis by all means available to me, including the excellent documentary films now available through Netflix, such as the one about the demise of the "electric car."   I am a musician, playing Irish Traditional Music on the fiddle, and a songwriter. The World Children's Choir has performed my songs. My songs, Small Planet and Orbit, are intended to get out into the world and join the passionate "call" for a BETTER WORLD, A SANE WORLD......Linda Rosch I actually have two songs on this site:  Small Planet and Orbit.

State/Country: District of Columbia United States

City/Location: Washington, D.C.

Influences: Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Laura Nyro, the rich traditions of folk music from Ireland.

Quote:

"We've got the whole world in our hands...." whoever composed the words to that song long ago WAS NOT KIDDING.

I absolutely believe that if we invested all the resources used to promote violence against each other -- instead to help us "lift each other up," we could radically change this world and have our "Golden Age of Peace."  But we need to learn the importance of BALANCE -- and that includes balancing the size of our human population in a careful, thoughtful way, voluntarily, because it is the right thing to do.  This cannot be legislated; we have to know it is the right thing to do -- and do it.

In order to heal the Planet's environment, we need to revisit every facet of our cultural norms -- take the whole thing apart, look at each piece -- and think about kinder ways of "putting it back together."  We need to work steadily at building bridges with the use of words/language  -- so that people who cannot stand in the same room and speak to each other now will easily do so tomorrow.  HOW CAN WE POSSIBLY SAVE THE PLANET'S ENVIRONMENT WHEN SO MUCH OF OUR ATTENTION AND OUR RESOURCES (MONEY) ARE FOCUSED ON WAR?????      We should pay close attention to advice that comes from THE ELDERS  -- the group I believe was initiated by Richard Branson and Peter Gabriel.   Cultivate sugar-based ethanol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
